What to Eat (and Drink) in London this Week (14th September)

From Professor Green's new opening to a curry festival on Brick Lane, there's plenty happening across London this week. Plus, this foodie guide is not just for humans, your dog can now get in on Tom Kerridge's Sunday roast action. Here’s what to eat and drink in London this week, 14–20 September.

1. Marrions New Opening Date

We're happy to announce that following the slight delay, Marrions will be ready to go next week. From Thursday, Marrions will open its doors at the former Big Night site on Morning Lane, with a drinks list built around classic cocktails, Spanish beers and by-the-glass wines starting at £5. Food is equally unfussy, with snacks including devilled crab rarebit and pork schnitzel Holstein topped with a fried egg.

2. Treat your dog to a Sunday roast

Bringing your dog to the pub is nothing new, however The Chalk Freehouse in Chelsea from chef Tom Kerridge believe furry friends should get the entire Sunday lunch experience. They've teamed up with fresh dog food brand Butternut Box to give four-legged diners their own roast. Running every Sunday throughout autumn, The Dog's Dinner is a complimentary meal for dogs dining alongside their owners. The specially created roast includes pork, dog-friendly roast potatoes, crushed carrot and a Yorkshire pudding, with the recipes developed to make sure they're safe, healthy and, crucially, tasty for dogs. While pups tuck in, their humans can choose from The Chalk's Sunday menu, which includes a 30-day dry-aged rib-eye.

3. Try Professor Green's new fast-food spot

Professor Green is bringing his fast-food concept PG Proper Good to London this week, following its debut in Glasgow. The build-your-own menu starts with a base such as loaded salad or potato puffs, which you can then pile high with salmon, chicken, pot roast beef, beans, dips and more. There's also a focus on electrolyte-packed drinks and frozen fruit desserts. Plus, it's said that Professor Green himself will be on-site during the launch!

The Brick Lane Curry Festival returns on Sunday 20 September, turning the street into a celebration of Bangladeshi and South Asian food and culture. There'll be participating curry houses, street food, chef demonstrations, live music, dancing and a procession from Buxton Street to the Brick Lane Arch. It's free and runs 12–7pm.

5. Visit the Shōtengai Pan Asian Market

The Shōtengai Pan Asian Market takes over Coal Drops Yard from Thursday to Sunday, bringing together independent East and Southeast Asian food, makers and artists. Expect street food alongside ceramics, fashion and other bits and pieces from across the diaspora.

6. Dine al fresco in a garden

There's a Dining in the Garden supper club at Paper Garden in Bermondsey on Friday 18 September. Starting at 6pm, chef Safiya Robinson will serve a three-course meal with wine pairing, drawing on Black Atlantic food traditions and her Black American, Jamaican and British roots. 7. Join Romy's Table at The Pem

One of Britain's most recognised Indian chefs, Romy Gill MBE, is returning to the kitchen this week with her first permanent restaurant in six years. The award-winning chef, broadcaster and cookbook author is taking over The Pem at Conrad London St. James, bringing her take on India's regional cooking to Westminster. Expect dishes inspired by Punjab, Kerala and Bengal, from samosa chaat and hand-dived scallops with raw mango and date-tamarind to charred king prawns, slow-braised lamb with Kashmiri morels and Romy's signature butter chicken. There's also a drinks list packed with Indian flavours, including a cardamom-spiced old fashioned, coconut and spice highball and pomegranate negroni.

8. Swap the snooze button for a saxophone

The early bird catches the... rave? Boisdale Canary Wharf is launching the area's first-ever Coffee Rave on Wednesday 16 September, bringing together freshly brewed coffee, live music and a 45-minute dancefloor session before the working day begins. The early-morning event will feature a live DJ set from Dom Topics and saxophone performances from Sam Sax, with doors opening at 6.30am and the dancing starting at 7am. Tickets cost £10, so if your morning commute could do with a little more jazz, this one's for you.
