In a sauté pan over medium heat, add oil and onions and sauté until onions are translucent, about 8 minutes.

Add garlic and sauté one minute more. Add balsamic, sugar and salt and simmer until liquid has absorbed, and onion mixture is glossy, about 2 minutes.

Store refrigerated for up to 3 weeks.
