What to Eat (and Drink) in London this Week: 11th May

A short and sweet round-up for this week. A coffee festival, free babkas and a beer and curry dinner party- what more could one possibly want?

Here's what to eat and drink in London this week.

London's First Beer and Curry Pairing

London has always celebrated the partnership of beer and curry, but never officially. That changes this Wednesday, with an exclusive Beer & Curry Pairing Dinner hosted by Babur and the White Rhino Brewing Co, India’s first craft brewery. White Rhino’s founder, Ishan Puri, will guide guests through each pairing, sharing the stories and craft behind his characterful small-batch beers. Created collaboratively by Babur’s resident sommelier and mixologist Rupam Talukdar and Executive Chef Jiwan Lal, the menu proves that pairings aren't just for wine, showing the versatility of craft beer and unlocking its depths of flavour so often overlooked. The pairing will showcase a four-course menu of a selection curries from across the subcontinent, from mustard-led Bengali kasundi salmon to rich, slow-cooked Maharashtrian mutton masala, each dish designed to amplify and contrast the character of the beers. Tickets for the event are £49.95 per person and can be secured here.

Future of Food, Regent Street and St James’

If you're looking to go for dinner in Central London this week, head straight to Regent Street, where the restaurant scene will be thriving with tasting menus at new openings, generous discounts, and evenings with legendary chefs. Starting tomorrow until the 24th May, the area will be hosting a fantastic line-up of carefully curated, one-off ticketed events focused around sustainability, innovation and creativity, as well as offers of up to 25% off the bill at restaurants like Juls and Heddon Street Kitchen. For a full list of participating restaurants and events, you can head to Regent Street Online

London Coffee Festival Returns

Two dedicated industry days and a full weekend of celebrating caffeine, the festival features 275 artisan coffee and gourmet food brands, interactive workshops and demonstrations from world-class baristas, plus an education sessions programme discussing the industry's hottest topics. Forget Pret, the Truman Brewery on Brick Lane is where to get your caffeine fix this weekend. Tickets are still available to purchase here!

Copains x Tim Tam Babka Giveaway

This weekend, our favourite gluten free bakery (Copains) is teaming up with the iconic Australian treat, Tim Tam, to give away 100 free babkas. The giveaway is split across both their Islington and Covent Garden branches, so we'd advise arriving early. Like everything else Copains offers, the babkas will be entirely free from gluten, with Tim Tam biscuits woven through. If you don't get your hands on a freebie, it's not all bad news- the babkas will be available in both bakeries for the rest of the month!

Arcade's New Expansion

Arcade Food Hall is continuing to grow, and their latest setting is no less than Covent Garden. The new venue setting up shop in a previous TGI Friday's site in Covent Garden, and will open their doors on Friday. Some of the vendors set to fill the space are Zylia - a Greek/Cypriot taverna from ex-Kiln Head Chef Nick Molyviatis, Plaza Khao Gaeng, Luke Farrell's Southern Thai restaurant, and smash burger pioneers, Manna.
