What to Eat (and Drink) in London This Week: 12th January

Got the January blues? A cheesy festival and £6 lamb kebabs ought to fix that. Here's what to eat and drink in London this week.

Chiswick Cheese Market Returns

Getting Wensleydale withdrawals? Fear not. With more than 200 different cheeses and high-quality accoutrements, the UK's only market dedicated to cheese is here to help. Chiswick Cheese Market is back this Sunday at The Old Market Place, drawing producers and sellers from across the UK together to showcase every cheese imaginable. Get yourself to West-London from 9.30am to 3pm and discover something new, whether that be a new trader or seasonally-available delicacies.

Song Que Cafe's New Opening

If you're fond of a pho, you've likely heard of Song Que Cafe. It's widely known as one of the best, and most authentic Vietnamese restaurants in London. After over twenty years of serving happy diners in Hoxton, they're opening a new branch in Spitalfields. Song Que Pho Bar will have a focus on their pho noodle soup alongside the best sellers from the Hoxton restaurant. For those of you with an office in the city, consider yourselves very lucky.

Columbia Road gets a New Trattoria

Dara Klein is opening her own restaurant in Hackney this week after what was a successful residency at the Compton Arms. Teaming up with Ry Jessup, the co-founder of the home of London's best burger (The Plimsoll), together they will be opening a Tiella Trattoria & Bar on Columbia Road this Friday. Home to Brawn and Campania, Columbia Road hosts some of the best restaurants in London's dining scene at the moment, and with the likes of Ricotta di Romagna and Orecchiette with cime di rapa on the menu, we're sure Tiella will fit right in.

Cinnamon Club's 25th Anniversary

By popular demand, The Cinnamon Club is extending their retro menu for an extra week! Feast on classic dishes from Executive Chef Vivek Singh's 2001 menu, with prices from 2001 too. In fact, you won't find one dish on the menu for over £20! It will run until the 31st of January to celebrate 25 years of Cinnamon Club's modern Indian fine dining- a culinary time capsule, if you will. The ‘Retro Menu’ includes classics such as sweet potato cake with crisp okra and spiced yoghurt for £5.00, smoked lamb kebabs for £6, and a larger dish of Vindaloo of pork chop with pilau rice for just £15.50! When speaking about the menu, Chef Vivek Singh has called it “a tribute to our early days." He went on to explain; "This isn’t just about nostalgia; it’s about celebrating the ambition, curiosity and creativity that shaped our early years and also the audacity of the idea itself. These dishes remind us, and our guests, why The Cinnamon Club has stood the test of time.” Reserve your table now for the Retro Menu here.

Franco Manca's Map My Pizza Run

The popular pizzeria chain Franco Manca are giving us an actual incentive to run, because Strava kudos alone doesn't quite cut the mustard. In exchange for a pizza-shaped route, they're offering money off pizzas. The rules are firstly, to run a pizza-shaped route, secondly, to map it, then for every kilometre ran, you get £1 off your pizza. Pop into any of the branches across the UK, show off your map, and enjoy! Finally, the motivation we needed.
