Today marks the beginning of British Pie week, which you can risk celebrating at home with one of our pie recipes, or at the Compton Arms. Aside from that, there's tons of new openings, soft launches, and a bao-bun birthday to make the first week of March a very good one.
Here's what to eat (and drink) in London this week.
MRBL Opens in Leadenhall Market
You might think at this point London has enough steak houses, but we love to be spoilt for choice. Say hello to MRBL (pronounced marble, not mer-berl) coming to Leadenhall Market. Expect croquettes and chipolatas to start, while the main course focuses on steaks and classics. From Wednesday 4th to Saturday 7th March, there will be 50% off dining to welcome guests in.
National Pie Week in London
It's national pie week and yes, it is a thing. Rake at the Compton Arms will be celebrating their Cornish roots with a hearty pasty pie on the menu from Wednesday to Saturday. The sharing pie for 2 comes with creamy mash potato and house made brown sauce, a dish worth celebrating.
Burro Opens in Covent Garden
Unless you've been living under a rock, you've likely heard of Trullo. It has been hailed as London's finest Italian, its handmade pasta drawing many a hungry visitor onto the Victoria line to try it for themselves. Now, the chef and co-owner Conor Gadd is opening his own solo restaurant in Covent Garden. A seasonally focused, simple yet indulgent menu that changes twice daily, Burro opens on Friday, and is one to watch.
Mr Bao Turns 10
This Thursday Mr Bao, Peckham's neighbourhood Taiwanese serving South London's fluffiest bao, is celebrating its 10th birthday. There will be a one-off menu that celebrates the most popular specials, staff favourites over the years and a yuzu drizzle birthday cake. Tickets are £45 and available to purchase here.
A Martini Menu First
If you haven't yet hopped on the martini bandwagon, now's your chance. Cooper's Cut is a new steakhouse opening in Tower Bridge today (2nd March) and is offering a three martini mid-day menu for £38. Start with a sweet concoction of Quarter Proof London Dry, Elderflower, and Champagne, then follow with a savoury main course of Quarter Proof Grain Spirit, Caper Brine, and Blue Cheese Olive. To finish, a spin on the espresso martini- Dessert Quarter Proof Agave, Coffee, and Salted Caramel. For soakage there is British grass-fed steaks and Galician cuts, ticking all boxes for a day of over-indulgence.
Soho Gets a New Ramen Spot
After many a successful launch across Scotland and England, Maki & Ramen are embarking on their first London venture with a new opening in Soho on Saturday. There will be seventeen ramens to choose from and the kitchen will be open until 1am, adding it to Soho's vibrant list of late-night bites.
