This chicken South Indian recipe is fiery, fragrant and full of spice!

If chicken korma is the gentle charmer of Indian curries, then this chicken curry, South Indian style, is its punchier cousin - bright, aromatic, and brimming with flavour. Hailing from the southern states of India, this chicken South Indian recipe is known for its fiery warmth and signature tang.

This is the perfect chicken curry for dosa - we’ll tell you what they are in a minute - and it’s really simple to make at home. Starts with mustard seeds, dried curry leaves, and a hit of ginger and garlic. Sambar powder - a spice mix used across Tamil Nadu and Kerala which includes coriander, chilli, lentil, and fenugreek - is added with the tomatoes and coconut milk, and then add the chicken. The result is an iconic chicken curry, South Indian style. And as we said, it’s the perfect chicken curry for dosa - a thin, crisp pancake made from fermented rice and lentils.

You can also serve with steamed white rice, or paratha, a wholewheat flatbread, to mop up your sauce. For the real taste of India, try a coriander, garlic and chilli paratha, or superstar chef Asma Khan’s courgette and pea paratha.

This amazing South Indian-style chicken recipe is easy and tasty, ideal for family curry night at home, or to impress guests. If you’re looking for more classic curries, how about a wonderful Goan fish curry, Asma Khan’s iconic railway curry, or a luxurious lamb rogan josh.
