The temperatures are dropping and the heating is getting more expensive, which means its time to rely on the natural way to secure some warmth to our bones. Luckily, there's plenty to eat in London this week to help us out with that. Our favourite boujee food shop is having a festival, Canary Wharf has an exciting new opening, and a Gothic Revival masterpiece in King's Cross is now home to one of London's most beloved steakhouses.
Here's what to eat in London this week.
Waitrose Food Festival
Everyone has a different way of getting into the festive spirit. For some, it's shuffling around christmas market, for others, it's a Home Alone replay. For us? It would have to be a trip to Waitrose. Browsing through the extensive cheese selection, having a snoop through the world-class wines, Waitrose does Christmas shopping right. And this weekend, they are heightening the festive experience at Tobacco Dock with festive food tasting, a cellar of cheeses, live music and cooking demos from the likes of Yotam Ottolenghi, Jack Stein, Sabrina Ghayour and Simon Rimmer.
Hawksmoor's Latest Opening in King's Cross
On Saturday, the doors to Hawksmoor's latest London opening will officially open. The new restaurant is in Sir George Gilbert Scott’s Grade I-listed Gothic Revival masterpiece. 95 covers, a private dining room, a chef’s table, and (arguably) the pièce de résistance, The Martini Bar. A grand, high-ceilinged room with a terrace and an army of bartenders making the crispest Martinis in London. If you've not yet acquired the taste, other drinks are available. With regards to food, the St Pancras location will have its own exclusive dishes, including a Seafood Platter of Scotch bonnet oysters, dressed Dorset crab, scallop crudo, Atlantic prawns and pickled cockles and a Prime Rib Roast with devilled slow-cooked rib bone, an impressive Yorkshire pudding, bone-marrow gravy, and mash.
Plaza Khao Gaeng Opens in Borough Yards
The owner of Speedboat Bar has extended his impressive collection of Thai restaurants! On Wednesday, Luke Farrell will open the doors to Plaza Khao Gaeng in Borough Yards. This is the second of its kind, following the first in the Arcade Food Hall which was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2023. Some dishes in this branch south of the river will include Gaeng Gati Puu- crab simmered in a luscious coconut curry with betel leaf, or for something lighter, the Yam Strawberry- a sweet and sour salad with strawberries, green mango, jasmine fish and roasted coconut. The vibrant restaurant will sit beneath one of Borough Yard's railway arches, fitting 78 diners.
The Brothers Behind Beam Open Nora, Canary Wharf
If you're a brunch aficionado, you'll know of Cafe Beam. With its sleek interiors, creamy flat whites and perfectly poached eggs, this string of cafés has seamlessly succeeded in being a go-to for post-pilates refuels. Today, however, the brothers behind Beam have ventured into something new. Introducing Nora, the new restaurant in Canary Wharf that honours the dynamic city of Istanbul. Head Chef Daniel Alt (previously Barbary) will be leading the way, crafting a fiery menu of spiced lamb ribs, onion dolma, sweetbreads and mackerel. It all sounds very delicious, and well-worth a hop on the Jubilee line.
