What to Eat (and Drink) in London This Week: 1st September

It's the start of a new month, and September in London brings with it plenty to keep us fed and entertained. Dine al fresco on London's West End as the golden leaves fall around you, or perhaps a less romantic, but equally enticing chopped cheese sandwich on Southbank in store. Tasca's See You Soon Party

Following the news of Tasca's preemptive closure of the residency at Cav, they’re throwing a blow out ’see you soon’ party this Sunday, 7th September! Head Chef Josh Dallaway will be firing up the barbecue for delicious treats such as charred langoustines and bifanas, and Tasca’s big hitters like the seasonal glides and delicious Cachorrinho. Tasca’s Sommelier Sinead Murdoch will be opening magnums and DJ Wineyl will be selecting summer vinyl tracks. No such thing as the Sunday scaries around here!

CelebrASIA at Battersea Power Station

CelebrASIA, London's biggest festival celebrating South East Asian food, culture, and community, is coming to Battersea Power Station. Expect 29 market stalls of street food and drink, from Chick 'N' Sours x Sambal Shiok's cult chicken satay burger to newcomers Nha Trang Kitchen and Khanom Krok. This year, there will also be a brand-new concept, Feasting Table, for an exclusive four-course open-fire dining experiences created by London's hottest South East Asian chefs- Abby Lee, Budgie Montoya and John & Desiree Chantarasak. Of course, there will also be live music, dance performances and parades, from traditional dance troupes flying in from Malaysia and Thailand. If there's ever been a reason to venture south of the river, this is it.

Black on the Square

This Saturday, Trafalgar Square's celebration of Black music, food and culture returns! From noon, Central London will come alive with free live performances, family-friendly activities, and sizzling food, highlighting the creative force of Black Londoners past and present. Black-owned stalls and traders will offer a diverse mix of global cuisines and cultural experiences, including the Afro-Fusion favourite, The Merge and Afro-Caribbean chippy, Every Fish Bar. Feast on Caribbean classics, West African bites, seafood specials and plant-based desserts, while browsing artisan stalls offering jewellery, art, books, homeware and fashion. This year’s occasion is not one to be missed!


London Goes Al Fresco

Mourning the loss of a European Summer? To help lessen the shock to the system that is, September, London’s West End is going al fresco! As part of the Mayor of London’s Summer Streets initiative, and backed by the Heart of London Business Alliance, the iconic street in the heart of theatre-land will be pedestrianised daily from 11am-11pm. Transport back to the lively buzz of cobbled Italian streets as St Martin’s Lane transforms into a vibrant, traffic-free dining destination until the end of October. As part of the Mayor of London’s Summer Streets initiative, the iconic street in the heart of theatre-land will be pedestrianised daily from 11am-11pm, making the autumnal transition all the more bearable for us. Feast on your favourite dishes from St Martins Lane Hotel, Mildred’s, Fumo (San Carlo) and many more in the fresh, open air... but knowing the British weather, you may want a jacket.

Bodega City's Southbank Pop-Up

Bodega City has made quite a name for itself in New York, and now, us Londoners get a chance to see what the fuss is about. The final pop-up of the Truffle Burger & Friends series on Southbank, they will be serving their iconic chopped sandwiches for the next few weeks alongside Adobo or Loaded Bodega fries. If you've never heard of a chopped sandwich before, you're in for a treat. Expect a cheeseburger, chopped up, and served in a soft sub roll alongside lettuce, tomato, and homemade sauces. If beef isn't your thing, the Regular Shhmegular swaps it for chopped fried chicken.


World Halal Food Festival

This weekend, London Stadium will be transformed into a thriving hub for foodies as the World Halal Food Festival takes over for its tenth year. Live cooking demos, competitions, giveaways, and over 150 vendors to try out something new (or feast on what you already know and love).
