What to Eat (and Drink) in London This Week: 30th March

This week we say hello to April, try to avoid getting fooled, and do a last-minute panic shop for an impromptu Easter celebration. If the latter sounds likely, there's a new spot in town to stock up on (most likely organic and potentially gluten-free) Hot Cross Buns. What's more, a North London wine bar is hosting an adult Easter Egg Hunt and London Fields gets a new opening which explores a region of Italy that has until now, been overlooked..

Here's what to eat (and drink) in London this week: 30th March.

Angel Gets a Whole Foods!

On Thursday 2nd April, Whole Foods Market is set to open its first new store since March 2025 in Angel, Islington. This opening will kick off the brand’s 2026 expansion plans, with five other locations across London to follow throughout the summer. There will be freebies on offer for the early birds, with queues set to start at 7.30am. The first 200 shoppers will receive complimentary Old Spike coffee, freshly baked croissants, berries and limited-edition Whole Foods Market Angel tote bags- could this be London's own take on the infamous Trader Joe tote?

TOAD Bakery's Limited-Edition Pastry

This Saturday, South London’s award-winning bakery TOAD, will collaborate with Brooklyn-based baker and writer Tanya Bush to create a limited-edition pastry in celebration of Tanya’s new cookbook, Will This Make You Happy- a culinary memoir and love story about desire and dessert, interwoven with over fifty innovative yet approachable baking recipes. Each pastry features layers of golden, buttery croissant dough, shaped into a circular shell and filled with buckwheat génoise and bright pink strawberry compote. At its centre sits a delicate soba cha panna cotta, finished with caramelised soba cha for a nutty, toasted crunch.

Top Cuvée's Easter Egg Hunt

Since 2021, Top Cuvée has been encouraging North Londoners to release their inner child, with thousands of eager adults rampaging around Highbury, cracking clues, completing challenges, and battling it out for prizes. This year, Top Cuvée are levelling up their annual Easter Egg. Every hunter gets a Bag of Tony's Chocolonely, with 1,000 bags up for grabs. To fuel the hunt, snacks are available to pre-order, the likes of a Chicken Thigh Karaage sandwich and a Tony's Chocoloney Trifle. Plus, 2-4-1 Happy Hour drinks all day, massive giveaways, legendary tote bags & exclusive surprises. Wholesome, thrilling, but be warned- it is said to get competitive.

A New Italian Comes to London Fields

London Fields may have lost Papi, but in its place it has won a new Italian restaurant inspired by Abruzzo. Auguste is set to open its doors this Wednesday, as of the time of writing, there is little trace of it online, with a blank Instagram Feed and no website to be seen on Google's search results (we even checked page two). However, the Abruzzo region of Italy is one that celebrates arrosticini (grilled lamb skewers) and grilled fish, and we've heard that both will play a large part on the menu. The brains behind the restaurant are chef Mike Bagnall (Elm at Peckham’s The Montpelier) and Dylan Walters, (previous manager at neighbouring hotspot, Bambi). Needless to say, this restaurant is in safe hands. Go for the arrosticini, stay for the £5 Campari cocktails.

Acme Taco Comes to Walthamstow

The iconic Acme Fire Cult has been providing East London with all of its live fire cooking needs since the days of COVID. After years of success, it's expanding further North to Walthamstow with a slight re-brand. The new venture will be known as Acme Taco, where Chef Clarke will be crafting the likes of the Suadero Taco (confit ox cheek, beef sausage, heart & tongue, finished with smoky bone marrow & salsa roja), premium Castacán (slow-cooked pork belly and crackling), Wagyu Quesabirria, and what is said to be the best vegan chorizo in the city. In the words of the brewery themselves "it’s playful, it’s ingredient-led, and it’s the perfect partner for a cold 40ft pint."
