It's Thanksgiving week, and as our friends across the pond will be feasting on turkey and pies, it feels only right that we should a overindulge too. If you're looking to celebrate the day, look no further than one of our favourite restaurants, Cinder, who are serving up a sufficiently extravagant menu. Otherwise, there's plenty to keep you full and entertained, whether that be a Tortilla Slapping Competition (yes, you read that correctly), a Gingerbread city, or Dishoom's very own street market.
Here's what to eat and drink in London this week!
A Gingerbread City Opens its Doors at Kings Cross
Winter Wonderland is nice and all... but can you eat it? This week, an entire city built from gingerbread is opening up at King's Cross, and we think it will do just the trick to get us into the festive spirit. With candy and frosting decor, this temporary city is designed and built by architects such as Zaha Hadid. This magical, mouthwatering world will also host weekend workshops where you can build your very own gingerbread creation to take home. Plus, there will be a special exhibition from the 1st of December with a gingerbread creation from Great British Bake Off baker Pui Man on display! Tickets start at £8.50.
Cinder Launches a Thanksgiving Menu
One of our favourite restaurants, Cinder, is serving a Thanksgiving feast for just £65 per person. The menu includes mac n cheese bites to start, rolled turkey leg with sausage sage stuffing, brussel sprout caesar alongside other tasty sides, and of course some pecan pie to finish. It all sounds very delicious, and if it's anything like the standard menu, it's bound to impress.
The Flat of Bridget Jones Gets a New Residency
We're all familiar with the space above the Globe Tavern. Yes, we're referring to Bridget Jones' old flat and the temporary home to Khao Bird. Following their success (they are now opening their first permanent location in Soho), there's a new chef ready to make the most of the iconic space. As of tomorrow, it will be occupied by chef Tom Geoffrey. Barang is a Cambodian-inspired restaurant serving vibrant flavours, dishes cooked over an open-fire, and seasonal produce. It will be open until the end of March next year.
The Tortilla Slap Championship Returns to Vauxhall!
If you have any plans for this Saturday, it's important you cancel them immediately. London’s wildest food fight returns to Market Place Vauxhall for its second annual showdown, and it's set to be a good one. 32 fearless competitors will face off with tortillas in hand and water in mouth, slapping their way to glory. The prize is a year’s supply of tacos and margaritas from Market Place and Streat Latin, and if you've missed the chance to sign up, you can still take advantage of the free tacos for the first hour, and free margaritas for the first 100 spectators. There will also be Lucha Libre wrestling with masked warriors and live mariachi bands. Needless to say, this is not an event to be missed.
Dishoom's Street Market
This weekend, Dishoom are celebrating South Asian talent with their very own Dishoom Loves market in Old Street. Alongside brilliant vendors, inspired makers, and hands-on craft workshops, Dishoom will bring its own treats, such as mithai from the Dishoom Sweet Shop, street-food dishes such as pani puri and chaat, and free-flowing chai throughout the day. There will be plenty to do on the day- wander through the stalls and start your holiday shopping early with jewellery and skincare to intricate textiles and radiant art, get inspired by special South Asian speakers, pick up new skills in unique craft workshops, and when the sun sets (which will upsettingly be no later than 4pm) enjoy intimate performances, feast on biryani and have a tipple or two!
